			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article, I explain the difference between keyword density, frequency, prominence and proximity, and how they affect search engine rankings.</p>
<p><b>Keyword Density</b></p>
<p>Keyword density refers to the ratio (percentage) of keywords contained within the total number of indexable words within a web page.</p>
<p>The preferred keyword density ratio varies from search engine to search engine. In general, I recommend using a keyword density ratio in the range of 2-8%.</p>
<p>You may like to use this real-time <a href="http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com/">keyword analysis</a> tool to help you optimize a web page&#8217;s keyword density ratio.</p>
<p><b>Keyword Frequency</b></p>
<p>Keyword frequency refers to the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a web page.</p>
<p>The theory is that the more times a keyword or keyword phrase appears within a web page, the more relevance a search engine is likely to give the page for a search with those keywords.</p>
<p>In general, I recommend that you ensure that the most important keyword or keyword phrase is the most frequently use keywords in a web page.</p>
<p>But be careful not to abuse the system by repeating the same keyword or keyword phrases over and over again.</p>
<p><b>Keyword Prominence</b></p>
<p>Keyword prominence refers to how prominent keywords are within a web page.</p>
<p>The general recommendation is to place important keywords at, or near, the start of a web page, sentence, TITLE or META tag.</p>
<p><b>Keyword Proximity</b></p>
<p>Keyword proximity refers to the closeness between two or more keywords. In general, the closer the keywords are, the better.</p>
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p> How Keyword Density Affects Search Engine Rankings</p>
<p>How Keyword Density Affects Rankings In Search Engine</p></blockquote>
<p>Using the example above, if someone searched for &#8220;search engine rankings,&#8221; a web page containing the first sentence is more likely to rank higher than the second.</p>
<p>The reason is because the keywords are placed closer together. This is assuming that everything else is equal, of course.</p>
<p>You may like to read my article, &#8220;<a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/marketing-tips/keyword-targeting.html">How To Find Out What Keywords Your Customers Are Searching With</a>.&#8221; In this article I show you how to capture your most targeted visitors with the search engines by discovering what keywords they search with.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I show you how to improve your search engine rankings using 27 quick search engine optimization tips.</p>
<ol>
<li>Increase your site&#8217;s link popularity by increasing your internal and incoming links.
<ul>
<li>Internal links - Cross link all your sites and important pages within each site. This will maximize the PageRank of all your pages within each web site.</li>
<li>Incoming links that you control - Create several small web sites related to your main site. Each site should only consist of a few pages. Then cross link them all together using the most important keywords. Don&#8217;t forget to include links back to the main site.</li>
<li>Incoming links that you don&#8217;t control:
<ul>
<li>Ask sites that link to your competitors to link to your site. To find out which sites are linking to your competitors, visit a search engine and enter, &#8220;link:&#8221; followed by the competitors&#8217; domain name.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>link:www.yourcompetitor.com</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Exchange links with sites listed in the same category as yours in the major web directories, such as the <a href="http://search.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Directory</a> and the <a href="http://dmoz.org/">Open Directory</a>.</li>
<li>Find sites that accept site submissions. Visit your favorite search engine and search for:<br />
<blockquote><p><code>"add url" "your keywords"</code></p></blockquote>
<p>Also try searching for the actual submission page using its page name.</p>
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>addurl.html, addsite.html, addlink.html, etc.</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Include a TITLE tag as the first META tag, directly after the HEAD tag.
<p>For example:<span id="more-15"></span></p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;HTML%26gt;<br />
&lt;HEAD%26gt;<br />
&lt;TITLE%26gt;Mike&#8217;s Marketing Software Tools Reviews%26lt;/TITLE%26gt;<br />
&#8230;</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Try to avoid <i>stop words</i> in your TITLE tag. Stop words (a, an, and, but, he, her, his, i, in, it, of, on, or, she, the, etc.) are common words and characters ignored by some search engines to enhance the speed and relevancy of their search results.
<p>You&#8217;ll find a list of 297 commonly-used stop words ignored by most search engines in my <a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationstrategies.com/">Search Engine Optimization Guide</a>; <i>Search Engine Optimization Strategies: Top 30 Search Engine Optimization &amp; Ranking Strategies For Dummies</i>.</li>
<li>Include a META DESCRIPTION tag, directly after the TITLE tag. Include the most important keyword phrase for the web page as close to the beginning of the description as possible.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;HTML%26gt;<br />
&lt;HEAD%26gt;<br />
&lt;TITLE%26gt;Mike&#8217;s Marketing Software Tools Reviews%26lt;/TITLE%26gt;<br />
&lt;META NAME=&#8221;description&#8221; CONTENT=&#8221;Mike&#8217;s Marketing Tools is the leading review site for the very best internet marketing tools for web marketers and webmasters.&#8221;&gt;<br />
&#8230;</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>If you use a META REFRESH tag, make sure it is set to refresh after 30 seconds.<br />
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="30; URL=http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com"&gt;</code></p></blockquote>
<p>Some search engines consider pages that refreshes under 30 seconds as spam. I recommend using a JavaScript redirect tag, if you require a quicker page refresh.</p>
<p>For example:</p>
<p>Step 1 - Paste this code into the HEAD section of your HTML document. Change the 3000 to whatever number you like. 1000 represents 1 (one) second.</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"&gt;&lt;!--<br />
function redirect () {setTimeout(&#8221;change()&#8221;,3000);}<br />
function change () {window.location.href=&#8221;http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com&#8221;;}<br />
//&#8211;&gt;&lt;/SCRIPT%26gt;</code></p></blockquote>
<p>Step 2 - Insert the onLoad event handler into your BODY tag, so that the JavaScript code is executed when the page loads.</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;BODY onLoad="redirect()"&gt;</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Remove all other meta tags (author, date, etc.), unless you&#8217;re sure they are absolutely necessary. The only meta tags I ever use are the META DESCRIPTION and occasionally the META REFRESH tag.</li>
<li>Include a site map with links to all your pages. This will help search engines find and index all your pages.
<ul>
<li>Limit the number of links on a web page to 50.</li>
<li>If you have more than 50 links, limit your links to your most important pages.</li>
<li>Include text on the page as some search engines, such as AltaVista, have been known to kick out links only pages.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Use one or more header tags in your main page body and include your most important keyword phrase/s.
<ul>
<li>Use large header tags, such as &lt;H1%26gt; and &lt;H2%26gt;.</li>
<li>Use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to alter the appearance of the header tags to fit the look and feel of your site. For more information read this <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp">CSS tutorial</a>.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Check the first couple of lines of the first paragraph to see if it&#8217;s appropriate to be used as a description of your page. Many search engines utilize the first couple of sentences of the body text as the search results description, instead of the contents of the META DESCRIPTION tag.</li>
<li>Try to achieve an overall keyword density of 1-2%. For more information on keyword density read my article, &#8220;<a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/marketing-tips/keyword-densities.html">How Keyword Density, Frequency, Prominence And Proximity Affects Search Engine Rankings</a>.&#8221;</li>
<li>Try to achieve a minimum word count of 300 and a maximum of 750 words on each page.</li>
<li>Register a domain name with the exact keyword phrase you wish to target, using hyphens to separate the keywords.
<p>For example, if the keyword phrase is &#8220;search engine rankings,&#8221; then register:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>search-engine-rankings.com</code></p></blockquote>
<p>If the domain you want is unavailable, either try a different extension, such as .NET, .INFO, or .US, or add a keyword to the end (preferential) or beginning of the domain.</li>
<li>Name directories after your keyword phrases, using hyphens or underscores to separate the keywords.
<p>For example, if an important keyword phrases is, &#8220;search engine rankings,&#8221; name your directory:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>www.yoursite.com/search-engine-rankings/ or...<br />
www.yoursite.com/search_engine_rankings/</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Name web pages after your most important keyword phrase. Separate the keywords using hyphens or underscores.
<p>For example, if the keyword phrase is &#8220;search engine rankings,&#8221; then name the page:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>search-engine-rankings.html or...<br />
search_engine_rankings.html</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Name your graphic files after keyword phrases. Again, separate the keywords using hyphens or underscores.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;IMG src="search-engines-rankings.gif"&gt;</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Include an ALT (alternative text) atrribute in image tags. Include the most important keyword phrases.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;IMG src="search-engines-rankings.gif" ALT="search engine rankings."&gt;</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>If you use an image map, include HTML links, as some search engines do not follow image map links. Plus image maps do not offer search engines any link text to index. So, try to avoid the use of image maps as they do not help with your search engine optimization efforts.</li>
<li>Use the longer or plural version of a keyword, where possible. Word stemming is a concept used by some search engines to return search results that include keywords that extend beyond what you searched for.
<p>For example, a search with the keyword &#8220;engine&#8221; might return results for, &#8220;engines,&#8221; &#8220;engineers,&#8221; and &#8220;engineering.&#8221; If someone searches for the longer version of a word and your page only uses the short version, then your page will be excluded from the list of possible results.</li>
<li>Sprinkle a few uncommon keywords and synonyms in your main body text. Less popular keywords have less competition in the search engines. So your web page is has a greater chance of being listed amongst the top results.</li>
<li>Do not repeat keywords or keyword phrases over and over again on a web page, as this would be considered as spam by search engines.</li>
<li>Keep your pages as close to the root domain as possible. Do not set up more than 3 directory levels.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>www.yoursite.com/index.html (1st level - excellent)<br />
www.yoursite.com/html/index.html (2nd level - Good)<br />
www.yoursite.com/html/marketing/index.html (3rd level - OK)<br />
www.yoursite.com/html/marketing/search/index.html (Too many levels down - search engines will find it difficult to find and index pages this far down)</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>If you have a persistent (on most or all of your pages) navigation bar at the side of each page, your table is almost certainly set up in such a way that it pushes your page&#8217;s body text down the HTML document. Search engines give prominence to keywords nearer the beginning of a HTML document. So, design your HTML table so that the navigation bar is placed after your main body text.
<p>If you&#8217;re unsure how to do this, check out my <i><a href="http://www.searchengineoptimizationstrategies.com/">Search Engine Optimization Strategies</a></i> ebook. You&#8217;ll discover exactly how to design such a table in my book.</li>
<li>Move Javascript code to a separate file, or the end of the HTML document after your closing BODY or HTML tag. Yes, this technique actually works!
<p>Follow these instructions to move the JavaScript code to a separate file and link to the file from the HTML document. Then place the following code in between the HEAD section:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>&lt;HEAD%26gt;<br />
&lt;SCRIPT LANGUAGE=&#8221;JavaScript&#8221; src=&#8221;file-name.js&#8221;&gt;&lt;/SCRIPT%26gt;<br />
&lt;/HEAD%26gt;</code></p></blockquote>
<p>This procedure also reduces your file size, and therefore your download time. In addition, it allows you to reuse the code on other pages by simply link to the JavaScript file. Both of these techniques will move your important body text nearer to the top of the HTML document.</li>
<li>Although not always practical, you may like to try naming your cascading style sheet tags after keywords.
<p>For example:</p>
<blockquote><p><code>.search {<br />
color: #ff0000;<br />
}</code></p></blockquote>
</li>
<li>Use Robots.txt files instead of Robots meta tags, as some search engine robots do not recognize the tag. Visit <a href="http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/robots.html">The Web Robots Pages</a> for more information.</li>
<li>Do not use font size one (1) text as the default text size. Many search engines consider tiny text to be spam. It&#8217;s OK to use some font size one text.</li>
<li>Do not participate in link farms or link exchange programs. Search engines consider link farms and link exchange programs as spam, as they have only one purpose - to artificially inflate a site&#8217;s link popularity, by exchanging links with other participants.
<p>Do not confuse link farms and link exchange programs with reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking is the exchange of links with individual sites, and is certainly an accepted technique for improving your site&#8217;s link popularity.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I show you how to select the best category when submitting to a web directory, to give your site every chance of achieving top rankings for the keywords you want to target.</p>
<p>Selecting the right category when submitting to a web directory can mean the difference between achieving top rankings and being lost in oblivion.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t think that by paying for your submission, it guarantees top rankings. It doesn&#8217;t! The only guarantee you will get is for a review within a certain time limit. If you don&#8217;t select the right category, you might as well just be throwing your money out the window.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how you should find the best category to submit to, in order to give your site every chance of achieving top rankings for the keywords you want to target.</p>
<p>Go to the web directory&#8217;s home page and enter in the exact keyword phrase you&#8217;re targeting in the search box.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s use the Yahoo! directory as an example. A search for, &#8220;cheap Web hosting&#8221; returns this page of results:</p>
<blockquote><p><a href="http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=cheap+web+hosting">http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=cheap+web+hosting</a></p></blockquote>
<p>Take a look at the category link directly underneath the #1 listing, where it says:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;More sites about: Web Site Hosting &gt; Directories&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>The majority of the top listings are placed under this category. This tells you that Yahoo! considers this particular category as the most relevant for the keyword phrase we searched for.</p>
<p>Click on the &#8220;Web Site Hosting &gt; Directories&#8221; category link. This will take you to the sub-category in the Yahoo! directory.</p>
<p>On the next page, take a look at the border at the top of the page that stretches across the screen, directly underneath the banner. It&#8217;s in yellow. This indicates that the category is classified as commercial. Non-commercial categories are in blue.</p>
<p>You will also find the listing that you clicked on located somewhere down the page.</p>
<p>There you have it. That&#8217;s how you select the best category when submitting to a web directory. You can use a similar technique when submitting to other web directories.</p>
<p>For example, to submit to the <a href="http://www.looksmart.com/">LookSmart Directory</a>, find the best category in <a href="http://search.msn.com/">MSN Search</a>. The reason for this is because MSN search results include LookSmart listings and sends more traffic than LookSmart itself.</p>
<p>The same is true for the <a href="http://dmoz.org/">Open Directory Project</a> index. In this instance, use the <a href="http://dir.google.com/">Google Directory</a>.</p>
<p>Good luck with your web directory submissions!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I show you how to find link exchange partners to improve your link popularity rating, which in turn will improve your search engine rankings.</p>
<p>Search engine optimization experts agree that link popularity is now considered by most search engines to be one of, if not, the most important factors that determines a site&#8217;s ranking in the search engines.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not sure what your site&#8217;s link popularity rating is, then use this <a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/link-popularity/">link popularity check</a> tool to check your link popularity rating in the top search engines.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s say we have two identical sites. One has thousands of targeted sites linking to it. The other only has a few incoming links. It&#8217;s virtually guaranteed that the site with thousands of incoming links will rank higher than the other site.</p>
<p>So how do you find reciprocal link partners?</p>
<p>First, you need to work out what type of web sites would link to your site. Here are some examples of sites and the types of sites that would link to them.</p>
<table border="0">
<tr>
<td rowspan="6"></td>
<td><b>Your Site:</b></td>
<td rowspan="6"></td>
<td><b>Links From:</b></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Pet store</td>
<td>Pet lovers&#8217; sites</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Site design service</td>
<td>Webmaster sites</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Travel site</td>
<td>Local guides</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>PC store</td>
<td>Software/hardware review sites</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Music store</td>
<td>Music fan sites</td>
</tr>
</table>
<p>As you can see, you&#8217;re looking for sites that are on the same subject matter, but not necessarily similar.</p>
<p>So now you know what sites to look for, how do you find these sites?</p>
<p>There are basically two methods:</p>
<p>In the following examples, we&#8217;ll use &#8220;pet lovers&#8217;&#8221; sites as the type of sites we&#8217;re looking for.</p>
<p>1. Find targeted sites in the web directories, such as <a href="http://www.yahoo.com/">Yahoo!</a>, <a href="http://www.looksmart.com/">LookSmart</a>, or the <a href="http://dmoz.org/">Open Directory Project</a>.</p>
<p>Go to a directory&#8217;s home page and search with the keywords, &#8220;pet lover.&#8221; Then click on the category the top listings belong to. The sites listed in these and related categories are the types of sites you need to contact.</p>
<p>If the category has a resources or directories sub-category, then try the sites in those categories first. Resources typically offer links to sites on the same subject.</p>
<p>2. Use the search engines to find sites that link to your competitors&#8217; web sites.</p>
<p>Using the search engines is probably a more efficient method of find reciprocal link partners, than searching the directories.</p>
<p>Go to your favorite search engine, such as <a href="http://www.google.com/">Google</a>, and search for any of the following keyword phrases:</p>
<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;pet directory&#8221;</i> - Searches for pet directories.</p>
<p><i>&#8220;pet search engine&#8221;</i> - Searches for pet search engines.</p>
<p><i>&#8220;pet lover&#8221; links.html</i> - Searches for link pages in pet lover&#8217;s web sites.</p>
<p><i>&#8220;pet lover&#8221; resources.html</i> - Searches for the resource page in a pet lover&#8217;s Web site.</p></blockquote>
<p>Don&#8217;t forget to include the quotation marks to narrow your search.</p>
<p>Also try replacing the &#8220;.html&#8221; with other file extensions, such as &#8220;.htm,&#8221; &#8220;.shtm,&#8221; &#8220;.shtml,&#8221; &#8220;.cfm,&#8221; and &#8220;.php.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now make a list of the sites. Then create a links or resources page and add links to the sites on that page.</p>
<p>After you&#8217;ve done that, link to that page from your home page. If you have hundreds of links, split the pages into different sub-categories. When you&#8217;re done, upload the pages to your server.</p>
<p>Now contact each site by informing them that you have linked to their site and request a link in return. Don&#8217;t forget to be polite and inform them of the benefits of exchanging links.</p>
<p>Some sites, such as web directories, will not require a reciprocal link. So simply submit your link.</p>
<p>The most important tip I can give you with regards to reciprocal linking is to only exchange links with targeted sites. I highly recommend that you don&#8217;t exchange links with sites that bear no relation with your site. If you link to poor-quality or spam sites, it could affect your search engine rankings.</p>
<p><b>WARNING</b></p>
<p>Under no circumstances should you link to, or add links from, link farms. Link farms are considered as spam sites in the eyes of the search engines.</p>
<p>If you want to save time and effort, you could use a reciprocal link management tool, such as <a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/arelis.html">Arelis</a>. It will help you find and contact link exchange partners.</p>
<p>Good luck with improving your link popularity!</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I discuss seven illegal, or almost illegal, search engine optimization and related techniques.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I discuss seven illegal, or almost illegal, search engine optimization and related techniques.</p>
<p><b>1. Trademarked Keywords In Domain Names</b></p>
<p>If you&#8217;re thinking of registering a domain name that includes a trademarked keyword, think again.</p>
<p>Using someone else&#8217;s trademark to attract customers is illegal. It violates federal trademark law, which prohibits the use of someone else&#8217;s trademark, if it causes a &#8220;likelihood of confusion&#8221; among consumers.</p>
<p>Take Yahoo for example. They objected to 37 registered domains, including AtlantaYahoo.com, DCYahoo.com, Jahu.com and Yhu.com. Read the <a href="http://www.computeruser.com/news/00/04/28/news4.html">full story</a>.</p>
<p><b>2. Trademarked Keywords In META Tags</b></p>
<p>It&#8217;s not necessarily illegal to use trademarked keywords in your META tags. But you could get sued, and people have.</p>
<p>It all depends on why and how you are using the trademarked keywords. If you used the keywords in what is deemed a deceptive manner, then you&#8217;re likely to lose your case.</p>
<p>However, there has been one instance of a defendant who proved to the judge that she had a legitimate reason to use the trademarked keyword. Read the <a href="http://www.searchenginewatch.com/resources/metasuits.html">full story</a>.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a short story to illustrate the seriousness of using trademarked keywords in META tags.</p>
<p>I had a client who included the trademarked brand name of a competing product in one of his web pages.</p>
<p>One day, he received a letter from the lawyer acting on behalf of the trademark owner in question.</p>
<p>The letter stated:</p>
<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;Use of [trademarked term] constitutes federal false advertising, trademark infringements, state unfair competition and is deliberately designed to trade on [trademarked term] reputation and goodwill. Placing the term, [trademarked term], in the keywords and META tags of your site inappropriately and unlawfully draws Internet users to your site.&#8221;</i></p></blockquote>
<p>They threatened to sue, unless my client removed the trademarked terms from the META tags. Naturally, we obliged! ;o)</p>
<p>What was surprising was that we could use the trademarked terms in the visible page body. So we kept the trademarked keywords in the page body.</p>
<p><b>3. Pagejacking</b></p>
<p>Pagejacking is copying someone else&#8217;s web page and submitting it to the search engines as your own, in hopes of getting high rankings. Quite often pagejacking also involves <a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/marketing-tips/advanced-optimization.html#cloaking">page cloaking</a>.</p>
<p>Pagejacking is no more than stealing copyrighted content. It beats me why people would be so dumb as to try this technique. Don&#8217;t try it. You will be caught sooner or later.</p>
<p><b>4. Deep Linking</b></p>
<p>Deep linking is the practice of providing a link directly to specific content on a web site&#8217;s sub-page, instead of linking to its home page.</p>
<p>On July 5, 2002, the Bailiff&#8217;s Court of Copenhagen ruled in favor of the Danish Newspaper Publishers Association, which claimed that Danish company Newsbooster violated copyright laws by &#8220;deep linking&#8221; to newspaper articles on some Danish newspapers&#8217; web sites.</p>
<p>The argument is that in bypassing the newspapers&#8217; home pages, Newsbooster links deprive them of advertising revenue. Further, they asserted that Newsbooster is in direct competition with newspapers. Read the <a href="http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,53697,00.html">full story</a>.</p>
<p><b>7. Deep Linking Without Permission</b></p>
<p>If a site you are linking to has stated that linking is prohibited, or requires permission first, then don&#8217;t link to them. If you do, you&#8217;re asking for trouble.</p>
<p><b>6. Trademarked Keyword Advertising</b></p>
<p>Thinking of bidding for competing trademarked keywords in search engines? Think again!</p>
<p>In January 1999, Estee Lauder sued iBeauty and Excite@Home, saying its trademarks were violated when iBeauty&#8217;s ads were presented during searches for Estee Lauder trademarked keywords.</p>
<p>When a person searched Excite@Home&#8217;s search engine for &#8220;Clinique,&#8221; they were presented with a banner ad for iBeauty. In addition, the search returned a list of related web sites, including iBeauty.com.</p>
<p>In August, 2000, iBeauty decided to voluntarily remove the trademarked keywords from its list. Read the <a href="http://news.com.com/2100-1017-244217.html?legacy=cnet">full story</a>.</p>
<p><b>7. Deep Linking Within A Frame</b></p>
<p>If you link to another site&#8217;s content by displaying it within a FRAME on your site, and your ad in another FRAME, you&#8217;re walking on thin ice.</p>
<p>What you&#8217;re basically doing is &#8220;stealing&#8221; other people&#8217;s content to generate advertising revenue. I would recommend staying clear of this practice.</p>
<p><b>Conclusion</b></p>
<p>Take care with the marketing techniques you use. If you think a technique can be construed as illegal, search the internet for possible legal cases on the technique. If you can&#8217;t find any, then it&#8217;s a good chance that the technique in question is worth pursuing.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.In this article I reveal what I believe are the two most important ranking factors used by Google.</p>
<p>My findings are as a result of my ongoing optimization experiments of my network of web sites on Google.</p>
<p>The top two Google ranking factors are:</p>
<ol>
<li>PageRank</li>
<li>Incoming Text Link Keywords</li>
</ol>
<p>I&#8217;ll explain each in more detail and what you MUST do to maximize the effectiveness of each element.</p>
<p><b>1. PageRank</b></p>
<p>PageRank is determined by the number and quality of links to a page. Both the quantity and quality of text links are important. Always try to get links from web pages with a PageRank rating of at least four.</p>
<p>Concentrate on getting as many different quality sites as possible to link to one page on your site, usually your home page. Do not spread the links to different pages. This will maximize the PageRank of your main page, plus those of the subpages.</p>
<p><b>2. Incoming Text Link Keywords</b></p>
<p>ALWAYS provide text links for linking to your site. Avoid image links.</p>
<p>Google does index image links, but without any text for it to index, it won&#8217;t help your link popularity rating for your important keywords.</p>
<p>In addition:</p>
<ol type="a">
<li>Include the most important keyword phrase in the text link, using the EXACT spelling.</li>
<li>Do not pluralize the keyword phrase, if people usually search the singular version of the phrase. And vice versa.</li>
<li>Avoid excess words, where possible.</li>
<li>The linked to page MUST have the text link keywords in the body of the page, otherwise Google will discount the page.</li>
<li>Include the text link keywords within the title tag of the linked to page. It is possible for a page without the text link keywords in the title tag to get top rankings. But I have discovered that around 80% of top 10 rankings have the text link keywords in the title tag, so always include it.</li>
</ol>
<p>Well, there you have it. Those are what I consider the two most important ranking factors used by Google. Other factors are considered by Google, but their importance pales in comparison to the two I have discussed in this article.</p>
<p>Follow these tips whenever you optimize your web pages and they will quickly shoot up the Google rankings.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Last Update: Monday, July 30, 2007.</p>
<p>In this article I show you three ways to get listed in Google, including one method that is virtually guaranteed to work.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m constantly surprised by what I find when dealing with search engine optimization clients.</p>
<p>One of those &#8220;surprises&#8221; is coming across sites that aren&#8217;t listed by Google, even though they have been live for many months.</p>
<p>For most Web sites, Google refers more traffic than any other search engine. So it&#8217;s imperative that your site is indexed in Google.</p>
<p>As of September 09, 2003, Google claims to index Searching 3,307,998,701 web pages. Yet somehow sites still fail to make it into the Google index!</p>
<p>There are three simple methods to getting listed in Google, but only one of these is guaranteed&#8230; well almost. ;o)</p>
<p><b>1. Submit Direct To Google</b></p>
<p>The first method is to submit your web site via Google&#8217;s free <a href="http://www.google.com/addurl.html">submit your site</a> form. Just submit your home page and Google&#8217;s crawler, Googlebot, will crawl the rest.</p>
<p>However, Google does not add all submitted URLs to their index, and there is no guarantee as to when, or if, your site will be indexed.</p>
<p><b>2. Get Linked From A Site That Google Crawls</b></p>
<p>The second method is to get a site that Google already crawls to link to your site. So when Google recrawls the web site, it will find the link to your site and crawl and index it as well.</p>
<p>This is Google&#8217;s preferred method of finding sites to index.</p>
<p>To get another site to link to yours, simply look for a site that links to your competitors and ask them to link to yours. You may have to offer a link back to their site in exchange.</p>
<p>You may like to read my <a href="http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/marketing-tips/link-popularity.html">link popularity</a> article, &#8220;How To Quickly Improve Your Link Popularity.&#8221; In this article I show you how to find link exchange partners.</p>
<p><b>3. Submit Your Site To The Yahoo! Directory &amp; The Open Directory Project Index</b></p>
<p>The third method is to submit your web site to the <a href="http://dir.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! Directory</a> and/or <a href="http://dmoz.org/">Open Directory Project</a> index, which is owned by Netscape.</p>
<p>As far as I know, this is the only guaranteed method of getting into the Google index.</p>
<p>Google has agreements with Yahoo! and Netscape to include the sites indexed in their directories in the Google index. So submit your site to either, or both (recommended), of these directories.</p>
<p>For more information, visit Yahoo!&#8217;s <a href="http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/">How to Suggest Your Site</a> page and the Open Directory Project&#8217;s <a href="http://dmoz.org/add.html">How to add a site to the Open Directory</a> page.</p>
<p>Once your site is included in either of these directories, it will appear in the Google index in about 4 to 8 weeks.</p>
<p>So now you have no excuse for not getting indexed by Google. ;o)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p class="articlesummary" align="justify">If you want to have all your past habits and experiences behind you, you have got to make that decisions to get rid of them for good. All of them can have a huge influence on your future. If you think that the past will equal the future, then you have got a big problem. If you let your past thoughts of experiences influence you, you will get to the same place that you got before.</p>
<p class="articlebyline">By <a href="http://www.copypastearticles.com/article/author/tal-fighel/">Tal Fighel</a></p>
<p align="justify">I see too many people who want to start a work at home opportunity, but put past experience right in front of them. They let events and their outcomes influence their decisions in many ways. The one thing that you can not do is to change the things that happened in the past. The only good thing that you can do is learn from those experiences and do things in many different ways.</p>
<p align="justify">If you really want to succeed in business and in anything in life, putting past habits behind you. Throw those negative thoughts out of your mind just like you can throw out old furniture from your house. All of them can have a huge influence on your future. You need to know that the past does not and will not equal the future. don’t think like that because you may never get what you really want. Don’t let past experiences take you in the wrong direction in life and in business.</p>
<p>Here’s a good example:</p>
<p align="justify">A person was raised by parents who were alcoholics, drug addicts, and were flat out broke. His parents never gave him what he really needed to succeed in life and that is a good education. He is an adult now and has a low paying job. If you go out and tell him that he can be all the he wants to be, the first thoughts that he will be getting is the thoughts of the way his parents raised him, how he did not have the education, and how he can not make it big in life. He is using his past experiences as an excuse. He was taught one thing and that is “failure”.</p>
<p align="justify">There are a lot of good, solid, and legitimate work at home opportunities out there in the online and offline world. The most famous one is called network marketing. Ever heard of that:</p>
<p align="justify">An individual joins an MLM company. They get into an OK company. They use the products. They read all the materials that are given to them. All the materials and training are given to them but as time goes by and they don’t see any good results. So they quit.</p>
<p align="justify">One year later, someone contacts them about a new network marketing company. They get them to a meeting and the person gets excited again. Once they leave the meeting, they suddenly think about the company that they were in a year ago. Thoughts of failure surrounds their thinking and they never go back again to building an income from this kind of business. Their past clearly controls their present and future thinking and decisions.</p>
<p align="justify">This person will always believe that this type of business does not work and will never work for him. He clearly let’s past experiences influence him in a bad way.</p>
<p align="justify">He put past experience in the present and it influences him and his decisions for the future.</p>
<p align="justify">The reason why so many people fail in life is because they let past experiences control their future. I am here to tell you that the past does not equal the future. These people have got to put these experiences in the back and look into the future in a whole new different way.</p>
<p align="justify">How can someone do this? One of the things that I found to be helpful is to read motivational books and listen to inspirational tapes. This is by far the best way that a person can go and change his life in the decisions that he makes for himself and looking into the future.</p>
<p align="justify">There are a lot of stories out there of people who had bad things happen to them in the past. They had a lot of experiences that influenced their directions in life. For some, these same bad experiences helped them become highly successful in life and for some it buried them in many ways.</p>
<p align="justify">If you think that every successful person or celebrity had everything when they were growing up as kids, then you are wrong. Many of them had some very bad lives. Their parents were poor. They barely had money for food and clothes. But these people did not let past experience influence them in a bad way. This past experiences did influence them in a good way and that is why they are making it big in every aspect of their life.</p>
<p align="justify">Some people take their past bad experiences in life and turn them around as a positive influence on their future.</p>
<p align="justify">Past bad life experiences sends people in the direction of never ever doing anything effective with their lives. They live their past in the present and let it control them for the future.</p>
<p align="justify">If you can change the way you are thinking then you can change your life for the better. There is magic in thinking positive and wanting to make positive changes in your life. Put the past behind you and move on the better things in life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p class="articlesummary" align="justify">Email is one on the most valuable timesaving tools available in the business world today. Unfortunately far too many of us are becoming virtual slaves to it. Learning some simple ways to manage your email could help you to gain back the time that it was intended to save.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p class="articlebyline" align="justify">By <a href="http://www.copypastearticles.com/article/author/kelly-sims/">Kelly Sims</a></p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">If you are anything like me, you are bombarded with email. In Particular, you get messages from clients, spammers, friends, family and associations or groups of which you are a member. Without proper preparation for such a massive amount of email, you might find yourself swimming in email. Email was created to be a tool to save you time, but if you can’t find an effective way to organize it, you will most definitely be losing time to it instead of gaining time from it. The following are some ideas that will help you use your email program to save time:</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* If your email’s spam filter isn’t doing a good job catching unwanted emails, check its settings. Usually in your email options, there will be junk email settings. Set the protection to a higher level. This should take care of at least a little more of the unwanted spam. If you have your email set to a high level already and are still receiving lots of spam, consider getting spam blocking software. Googling “stop spam” or “spam blocker” will give you a large list of options from which to choose.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* Consider setting up an autoresponder. An autoresponder can handle a great deal of general questions that you get on a regular basis. All you have to do is set it up once and your message(s) can go out hundreds or even thousands of times. Autoresponders are also great at sales, so to speak. They do all the work for you. When someone opts in to your list, you can set up your autoresponder to send a series of messages in a specific order at set intervals.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* Save commonly sent email messages as signatures. Signatures don’t only have to be actual signatures. You can save whole email messages as signatures and name them accordingly. For example, if you commonly follow-up with individuals you have met at your local Chamber of Commerce meetings, you could title your signature “follow-up” and save a message such as:</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">“Dear Mr. X,</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">It was such a pleasure to meet you at the last Chamber meeting. I hope that we have a chance to speak again at&#8230;”</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">Of course you would have to change details such as the name the email is addressed to, along with other more specific information, but the template will be ready within a few clicks of your mouse.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* Read and respond to email at set intervals throughout the day. Checking your email as messages come in is most definitely a common mistake that people make. Stopping the work you are doing to check email is extremely inefficient. Your tasks will take much longer to complete if they are subject to constant interruptions. Set a recurring reminder on your email calendar to check email 4 times per day. Only check and respond when you are scheduled to do so.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* Separate your email into folders. Just as you organize your documents into folders on your computer, so should you with your email. A good organizational system will make it much easier to find what you need when you need it. You can also set up rules in some programs so that your email gets automatically sorted as it arrives.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">* Color code your email. Some email programs such as MS Outlook allow you to color code your email based on certain criteria, such as who it’s from or the subject of the message. This will allow you to more easily differentiate between important and insignificant emails. For example, if you color code all of your client emails in red, then you will easily be able to see them within a sea of email.</p>
<div align="justify"></div>
<p align="justify">Email is a great tool if it is used properly. When it’s not, it can have a very negative effect on your time management. By learning to implement even a few of these simple steps, you can become a more efficient email user and stop losing time to a technology that was meant to help you save it.</p>

<p align="justify">One of the best ways to make money online is through internet based affiliate marketing.  Affiliate marketing in a nutshell is a way for the average person to market someone else’s product or service and that person will be a paid a commission for their efforts.  This is so beneficial for someone looking to make extra income away from their normal nine to five.  Once you are good enough and understand what it takes to be successful promoting affiliate programs, it may not be necessary to keep the nine to five job.</p>
<p align="justify">Promoting internet based affiliate programs requires a lot of tedious writing efforts.  To promote them effectively you need to write articles, blog posts, post in forums, and comment on others blogs.  Putting your links out to as many directories and places as possible is what you need to do.  You want to market these links to be seen and clicked.  Your only job should be to bring traffic to the landing page that these affiliate programs offer.</p>
<p align="justify">What I suggest, and what works best for me, is to enroll in a number of quality affiliate programs and to market those affiliate programs on your own website.  This will allow your traffic and customers to sign up in a number of programs instead of just one here or one there.  Your down line will increase in all of your affiliate programs rather than just one or another.  It will also make your marketing efforts much easier because you would only have to bring your traffic to one place for all of your affiliate based programs.</p>
<p align="justify">Before enrolling, it is extremely important to thoroughly research all of the internet based affiliate programs.  Research the history of the programs, whether or not they are true to their word and if their support is trustworthy.  Ask around, make sure they pay out what they say they are going to pay out and that they are not just looking to bail on you once you bring them what they ask.  Believe it or not, but there are many people on the internet who will scam you and run and will never be found.  So do your research!</p>
<p align="justify">When doing your research on the internet for these affiliate programs, look for ones that provide you with all the tools and training necessary for you to succeed.  Many affiliate programs will literally hand guide you to what you need and what you need to do.  All that will be required from you is the work and effort necessary to bring enough traffic to get people to sign up underneath you.  If you have the drive and desire to succeed and learn, these internet based affiliate programs can really be a good form of income for years to come.</p>
